Dumbarton Harp Social Club was established on 1st of May
1997. It was initially founded to provide members of
Dumbarton Harp Celtic Supporter's Club (founded 1967) a place
to socialise in a safe and economical basis. However,
stringent adherence to key elements of the club's
constitution, whereby all forms of equality and diversity are
valued and not discriminated against, has ensured that the
Dumbarton Harp Social Club of today is an accumulation of a
wide and diverse mixture of businesses, recreational and
social groups and a hub of the local community.
The club is administered by a Management Committee of 13
elected members in accordance with the clubs' constitution.
The committee consists of seven elected Officers, President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Bar Officer, Building
Officer, Entertainment Officer and six ordinary members.
Initially the Club rented two floors of a converted
19th century church at the northern end of Dumbarton High
Street. This comprised of what is now the Lisbon Lounge and the
Harp Suite on the middle floor, and a fully functioning snooker
hall on the top floor. Both areas in the middle floor were
developed by the members.
In 1999 the opportunity arose to expand the business
and take over adjoining parts of the building; which added a
function hall (The Kilmhor Suite) and an indoor market
situated at ground level in the High Street. The function
suite too, was built by the members themselves.
